Right on cue for Festival 2022
A 2 week hybrid event showcasing creativity & innovation across the UK
Festival UK 2022 showcases creativity and innovation across the UK and will see 10 major public engagement projects become reality, engaging millions and showcasing the creativity within the UK. It is a UK government backed organisation with £120 million of investment.
Cue were approached to provide technical support for the judging of 30 creative teams across two weeks. Taking place during lockdown 3.0, the event would need to accommodate remote teams and judges while providing a cohesive judging panel experience to the presenting teams and a simple to use presenting platform for the teams logging in remotely.
Prior to the event, we carried out testing sessions with each of the teams to check for any internet issues and confirm each team were confident with how to access their dedicated presentation session, were clear on what the judges would be seeing and understood what to do in the event of any technical issues.
With some judges on-site at the Festival UK 2022 offices in Birmingham and others having to join remotely, we decided a hybrid approach would provide the most polished event experience.
We installed a 7m wide green screen complete with a custom virtual backdrop which was controlled via VMIX allowing the remote judges to be superimposed into the image and making it appear as if all the judges were sat together. We were also able to digitally manipulate the distance between those judges in the room in Birmingham and ensure that strict social distancing was adhered to at all times while appearing to the teams as if the judges were sat next to each other on a virtual desk.
Two 75” screens were installed showing the presenting teams via Zoom on one and their presentation on the other. It was important that all the slide content was clear and visible as the teams would be judged on this.
Presenting teams were asked to join the session via their own personal link for their time slot whereby they would first be greeted by one of our team who would run through a technical brief covering the use of the internet clicker, check for any connectivity issues, check presentation content and provide cues for when the judges would be joining. This ensured that each team was confident in the technology and therefore only had to think about their presentation.
Each presentation was also recorded and this was provided to the organisers after the event as a reference back up.
The event was a great success and the organisers from Festival UK 2022 were extremely happy with how the event was put together technically and run. We cannot wait to hear what teams won a share of the £120 million and see their pitches become reality.
We had weekly content and review meetings leading up to two days of testing and rehearsing all the presenters with their presentations and the flow of the event.
